Rylan Returns

Samford’s wild offseason continues as the best news so far is here. Rylan Jones has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA. Instead of having to replace all five starters from a season ago, Samford is returning their floor general.

Sometimes the best gets are the ones you already have.

Samford has added five transfers who are signed, sealed and delivered in this offseason. The return of Rylan Jones, is the best news of the offseason. The Utah native will now be playing two seasons in Homewood instead of one.

Last season, Jones averaged 9.4 PPG, 5 APG along with 3.0 RPG per game. He also shot 43% from the field and 37% from three-point range. Jones was also named to the All-Southern Conference third team and was the conference’s Newcomer of the Year.

Jones also finished 11th in the entire country in assist/turnover ratio at 3.28.

So what does this mean? As mentioned off the top, this is massive news for Bucky McMillan and company as they look to defend a Southern Conference title. Rylan Jones knows what it takes on the biggest stage to help his team win. He can find and create his own shot while setting up others to succeed and making them better.

His leadership on and off the court will be extremely important as Samford will be replacing four of five starters from a season ago.

The best point guard in the Southern Conference will look to lead Samford back to the NCAA Tournament. As Jones said in his announcement, let’s run it back.
