Softball Hires Megan Curry as New Head Coach

Samford wastes no time after the resignation of former head softball coach Kimball Cassady and announces Megan Curry as the new leader of Samford softball. Curry was the head coach at Birmingham Southern last season and also is a member of the Samford Athletics Hall of Fame.

Megan Curry is coming back home and is now the 11th head coach in program history.

Curry played at Samford from 2013-2016 and was the Southern Conference Player of the Year in 2016. She also holds multiple single-season and career school records. Curry sits second in school history in career batting average at .363.

Samford also went to the NCAA Tournament in 2016 which is the school’s lone appearance.

At BSC in 2024, Curry was named the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Coach of the Year where the Panthers went 24-17 and 13-5 in SAA play. She also previously was an assistant coach at Mercer and a head coach at Asbury (NAIA) in Kentucky.

Curry also spent two years as an assistant coach at Samford from 2016-2018. Curry’s husband, Parker Curry, pitched at Samford and is now the Director of Pitching Development at UAB.

Below is the quote from the official Samford release from Curry.

"I want to thank Martin Newton and the rest of the Samford athletic department for giving me this wonderful opportunity to lead the softball program. I have personally felt the impact Samford can leave on one and believe in the mission wholeheartedly," Curry said. "I look forward to competing for championships within the SoCon and ultimately creating a culture of excellence. It will be one of the greatest joys of my life to come back home. Go Dogs!"

Samford returns nine rising seniors next season including CF McKayla Cothran, P Jordyn Partain, C Logan Champion, and 2B Sarah Squillace. The team also returns two rising sophomores who put up outstanding freshman campaigns in DP Olivia Shaw and 1B Katie Campbell.

Softball has found their next leader and it makes it that much sweeter when one of your own, comes back home.
