Kimball Cassady Resigns as Samford Head Softball Coach

Samford officially announces the resignation of head softball coach Kimball Cassady. D1 Softball first reported the news of Cassady and the university parting ways. In her three seasons as Samford’s head coach, Cassady went 84-82 overall and 39-18 in Southern Conference play. A national search for a new head coach is underway per the university.

This past season, Samford went 24-32 overall as their season ended in the semifinal round of the Southern Conference Tournament. Samford will lose three seniors from this year’s team along with P McKenzie Newcomb who entered the transfer portal last week.

As of now, Samford will return nine juniors who all contributed to the team in 2024 which includes P Jordyn Partain and leadoff hitter CF McKayla Cothran. Combine that with standout freshmen DP Olivia Shaw and 1B Katie Campbell, who set the school record for RBI in a season, the Bulldogs will be an experienced team in 2025.

It remains to be seen what kind of impact the transfer portal will have, however, the new head coach should have plenty of talent to work with to challenge for a SoCon title.
