Do You Want to Build a Fort? Samford Signs Miss State G Trey Fort
More good news this week as Mississippi State transfer G Trey Fort has signed with Samford. The 6’4” 200-pound guard is coming to Homewood for his final season. Fort started the first 7 games for the Bulldogs. In his 20 appearances for Miss State, Fort shot 38% from the field along with 35% from three-point range. He did battle a thumb injury throughout the season originally suffered in January.
Samford will be Fort’s fifth school after previously playing at UT-Martin, Copiah-Lincoln CC, Howard College, and Mississippi State.
At Copiah-Lincoln, Fort averaged 26 points and 4.6 rebounds. At Howard College in Howard, Texas, Fort averaged 26.3 points along with 4.3 rebounds. Fort was the number 1 JUCO recruit in the entire country.
He is a high-level scorer who will get plenty of opportunities in this Samford offense to flash. At Howard, Fort also shot 45% from beyond the three-point line. All signs point to Fort filling the hole left by Jaden Campbell’s departure.
Fort can catch and shoot the three, while also not being afraid to attack the rim. Much like Campbell, he can throw it down as well. His athleticism is a perfect mix with this Bucky Ball style of play and this offense.
A potentially, under the radar signing for this Samford team as they look to replace last year’s production with an intriguing player in Trey Fort. Former Tulane F Collin Holloway, Wagner G Julian Brown, Vanderbilt G Isaiah West, and now Mississippi State G Trey Fort are officially locked in with Samford.
