Samford Takes Care of Business, Vanquishes VMI
In what could have been a let down spot following a big win, Samford leaves no doubt with a 102-63 win over VMI. A balanced scoring attack made sure the Bulldogs will have a happy flight home. Three different guys finished in double figures with Jaden Campbell leading once again with 16 points.
Rylan Jones got back into the scoring groove with 16 points which is more than his last two games combined. AJ Staton-McCray found his flow back offensively as well with 13 points.
This Samford team also just set a school record for the most regular season wins in school history with 22. Yet another milestone for Bucky McMillan’s group in his fourth season. To quote former Ravens DB Marcus Peters, “I think we ain’t done yet.” No, they are not even close.
The depth of Samford proved to be too much as VMI had zero answers once again. Even VMI head coach Andrew Wilson mentioned at half time, his team was just having to get the ball out of the net too much. The Keydets could not get stops as Samford proved they could do just about anything they wanted offensively.
Then on the defensive end, VMI struggled with the Samford press especially in the first half as Samford forced 10 first half turnovers. Samford stepped up their defense in the half court in the second half and they did a great job of limiting VMI’s outside shooting. VMI only shot 1-of-20 from three-point range. VMI only scored 28 second half points.
Samford finishes this road stretch of Chattanooga, UNCG, and VMI with a perfect record. Honestly coming into this stretch, you would have taken two out of three. Samford said no we will take all three and good on them.
No let down here as Samford goes wire to wire with this win over VMI. Finally they are back home for a big, national television game against Western Carolina on Wednesday. I’ll be there. You should be there too.
