Samford Adds Another in Wagner G Julian Brown
Hey, here is some good portal news for Samford as former Wagner G Julian Brown has officially signed with Samford. The 6’1” 190-pound guard started 19 games for Wagner who played in the NCAA Tournament. Brown has two years of eligibility remaining.
Brown finished his season with 18 points in the Round of 64 loss to North Carolina. For the year, Brown averaged 10 PPG along with 3 RPG and 2 APG. The combo guard scored in double-figures 15 times and two of those came in the NCAA Tournament.
What you can take away from that last point is that Brown raised his play when the stakes were the highest. Brown played all 80 minutes in Wagner’s two tournament games and scored a combined 33 points.
He also has great range as Brown made 10 threes deeper than 25-feet and excels in catch-and-shoot situations when playing off the ball.
Wagner played at the second slowest pace in the country, only higher than Virginia (for basketball fans, shocking I know!). So that will be an interesting transition for Brown.
In a story published on NorthJersey.com, Wagner head coach Donald Copeland raved about Brown’s game and confidence.” Tough kid man, he’s got a chip in his shoulder,” Wagner coach Donald Copeland said. “His biggest strength I would say is overconfidence. He’s got that undersized guard thing, which is why I think I’m good at coaching him, because I understand that mentality.”
Brown helped Wagner win their first ever NCAA Tournament game and his big game experience will be extremely helpful as Samford looks to repeat as Southern Conference champions.
