Bulldogs Beat Bulldogs in Homecoming Win

Samford (5-4, 4-3) cruises to an easy Homecoming win using 30 first half points en route to a 37-7 final over The Citadel (0-8, 0-5). Everything went right for the red and blue Bulldogs as they got their second win in a row (one more and that’s a winning streak). Things are starting to turn around for Samford after putting up 500 yards of total offense today off of last week’s win.

QB Michael Hiers was on point going 26-36 for 353 passing yards, along with 2 TDs. RB Jay Stanton hit a couple milestones after a finishing with 96 yards and 2 TDs, the second TD being his 34th career rushing TD which ties a school record. Stanton averaged 7.4 yards a carry and is now in second place for rushing yards in school history also.

WR Chandler Smith was awesome per usual with 7 receptions and 176 yards (a career-high. Smith even had a great punt return TD that was called back due to a holding. WR E. Jai Mason found the end zone as well on a dime from Hiers. WR Iaan Cousin also made a great move getting free of The Citadel defensive back to get his first TD this season.

On the defensive end minus one coverage bust, the Samford defense was great today. The Citadel only went 4-15 on third down 2-6 on fourth down. LBs Noah Martin and Jaden Mosley led the way with eight total tackles. CB Devin Smith had six tackles along with two PBUs.

The Bulldogs now sit alone in fifth place in the Southern Conference. After a bye week, Samford will travel to Macon to play Mercer who just beat Western Carolina on the road, 45-38. Mercer travels to The Citadel next week.

Only two games left in this football season, it should be an exciting finish.
